Château de Garraud, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Bordeaux, France, 2017
Producer Profile
The vineyards of Château Garraud, planted in the mid 19th century, are located on a variety of rich terroirs: gravel, clay-gravel, deep clay with “crasse de fer” and clay-sand, high on the Pomerol plateau.
Meticulous work in the vineyards ensures fine expressions of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Purchased by Léon Nony in the 1930's it remains family owned for nearly four generations.
Viticulture
Double Guyot pruning, bud removal, sustainable soil enrichment, leaf thinning, green harvesting if necessary, ploughing, managed grass cover, finishing with harvesting when the grapes reach perfect maturity.
Winemaking
Plot selection, sorting of the harvested grapes, full destemming, fermentation in stainless steel temperature-controlled vats to control the maceration process and vinification temperatures.

Tasting Note
Aromas of ripe dark fruit and oak on the nose are followed by rich, intensely ripe, plummy fruit on the palate. Fresh core acidity keeps it vibrant and alive and this is all supported by a taught tannin structure. All in all a great example of how Merlot excels in Lalande de Pomerol.
Food Matching
A perfect partner for rustic French dishes such as beef Bourguignonne.
