Sherwood Estate, Riesling, Waipara Valley, New Zealand, 2022
Producer Profile
Dayne and Jill Sherwood founded their wine estate in 1987, at a time when not many people in New Zealand fully understood the wine industry, including them!
Together they have built the company from a small 20 acre block in north Canterbury to one of New Zealand’s largest family owned and independent wineries. Their customer built winery in the Waipara Valley may have seemed huge at the time, but now is bursting at the seams with epic wines, exuding great balance under the meticulous winemaking of Chief Winemaker, Petter Evans.
Viticulture
Grown on their Waipara Valley vineyards the grapes were harvested over a period of two weeks at varying degrees of ripeness allowing for a range of fruit flavours and complexity. This shows in the final wine with great depth of flavour throughout the palate with well-balanced acidity leaving you wanting more.
Winemaking
All Sherwood Estate’s production takes place at their winery in Waipara, from fruit reception, crushing, pressing, fermentation, racking, filtering, bottling and dispatch. The winery is fully accredited under Sustainable Winegrowers guidelines. The winemaking team of Petter Evans and Ian Whiteaker are dedicated to maximising the potential of every grape grown on the vineyards and ensuring that every bottle of wine that rolls off the bottling line meets the exacting standards that are expected.
