Alliance Wine Producers Shine in Tim Atkin's "Discover Spain 2024" Report
Alliance Wine producers recognised, with Pepe Mendoza Tinto 2022 scoring an impressive 97 points
We were delighted to see that two of our producers have been recognised in the recent "Discover Spain 2024" report by renowned wine experts Tim Atkin MW and Beth Willard. This special report focuses on Spain's lesser-known wine regions, highlighting the country's diverse and exciting wine landscape.
Eight wines from our portfolio received 90+ points. Our standout performer, Pepe Mendoza Casa Agrícola Tinto 2022 from Alicante, received an exceptional 97-point score, placing it among the top 15 wines reviewed. Atkin and Willard praised it as "unbelievable value" and "wonderfully vibrant and elegant," noting its "sunny Mediterranean fruit" and "addictively morish" character.
Other notable mentions include Pepe Mendoza’s Pureza Moscatel 2022 and Giró de Abargues 2021, which received 95 and 93 points, respectively.
The Pureza Moscatel, crafted in the increasingly popular style of skin contact or orange wines, was particularly praised by Atkin and Willard. They described it as “the best expression of Moscatel without any of the bitterness,” highlighting the exceptional winemaking expertise behind it.
Additionally, Viña Elena was recognised for their Bruma del Estrecho de Marin, Finca CQ 2022, which earned a commendable 93 points.
Elena Pacheco and Isio Ramos, the visionaries behind Bruma, are dedicated to celebrating Monastrell’s quality. Their commitment ensures that wines are only produced in vintages that truly express the vineyard and location. As they explain, “The most important thing for us is that when all the wines are tasted, you can appreciate the difference in soil (sandy, stony, or more limestone), the age of the vineyard, the altitude, whether it is a colder or warmer area.”
